Ghosts of London

So last night we took the Alleyways and Shadows Ghostwalk. It was hosted by Richard, who is Ghost historian spializing in Jack the Ripper, however we particpated in a fantastic and very entertaining evening with Richard (Special Guest expert with the fantastic Ghost show "Most Wanted" which Sam and I really like).

Richard walked a group of us through the alleys of London from St. Paul's and back again telling us really amusing stories. He's an excellent story-teller and was VERY VERY VERY Enteraining. I think I've got a bit of a crush actually.

Anyway, I can't remember all the stories he told us, because now I've had two pints (one at each of the pubs on each of the corners by our place (the Magpie and Crown and the other is the Beehive...yummy but I don't recommend the strawberry cider. it's yucky. I do recommend the London Pride beer - it was very tasty!).
Here is a picture of me and Sam with Richard.

SO - I HAVE to tell you of the experience I had at St. Paul's crypt. This is the creepiest thing and i actually asked Richard about it after the fact of course.

When we were touring the cathedral, we went down in the crypt an we were walking all over. I was alone and looking in the corner where Christopher Wren's memorial tablet and stone is and i took a step just to the right of his alcove and was looking at another stone. There was NOONE around me. I SWEAR. Matt and sam were't even close to me and there were other people there but not near...anyway, someone/someting touched my ass! It patted it twice as if to say ... "move along". It was creepy. i looked around and tehre was nothing so see - there was noone there and i was by myself.

So I asked Richard about strange occurrances and he said that he has been advised by workers in the crypt that there have been strange goings on, but they are not allowed (by the church) to discuss what happens there so I took it that my experience was not unique. It was unnerving though and creeped me out!

anyway, today I took Eric shopping on Regent/Oxford streets. and after that we met up with Sam, Matt and Annette at Holland Park special to me and Matty based on our mutual appreciation of the Movie "the Saint"...anyway, I digress, we had lunch, lovely sandwiches they made and a bottle of lovely red wine that we drank in the park. I can't believe how everyone just drinks in public.

The Girls went to KEW Gardens, the Royal Botanical Garden and the boys went to London Zoo. it was a nice relaxing afternoon. we had dinner and then Matt took me for a pint at the Magpie and another pint at the Beehive while Annette took the kids for a 5 km run. All particpants enjoyed their evening adventures... here is Annette at the Temple in Kew Gardens.

on our way home from the pub matt and I met a lovely red fox. It was so cute but walked funny - it's legs seemed to go as quick as a centipede but Matt assured me it was real. I didn't see it in a moment of drunken hallucination. Once we got back, the kids stretched and I blogged.

Did I tell you my ass is still aching from our three hour bike ride yesterday?? Yup that's right! my butt is so tender it could be tenderloin!

Anyway, it's now Off to bed as we are going to Windsor Castle tomorrow. Wish you were all here. Miss you! Love all of us.

  1. I think Annette made a good choice to stay back with the kids while you and Matt go to the pubs. How badly did she embarass Eric after her one glass of wine? She should stick to tea!

  2. Eric embarasses me on a regular basis so I figure it's ok if I embarass him once in a while. Besides, who are you to talk about sticking to tea?! I seem to recall a family vacation in Frankenmuth where you were falling off the sidewalks and into the flowerbeds after the wine tasting at St. Julian winery there!
