Cathedrals, Ghosts and Ships - OH MY!

I had to include this picture for my friend Jenn. Matt is screwing in the lightbulps for the Ruler of the Punjab! (as seen in Trafalgar Square...Jenn, I'll send you the pictures when I have the time.)

So today we did St. Paul's Catherdral - not just the outside like we saw yesterday. It is a beautiful work of art by Christopher Wren, if he wasn't dead, and I wasn't married, Happily I might add, I'd ask him to marry me... he was a genius apparently at everything he did, and he wasn't even an architect when he designed and built many churches in London in the 1600's.

There was some Karma on our side today - when we entered the Cathedral, the reverand announced that we should stand still or find a seat and remain quiet for two minutes. He then proceeded to say that every hour a different prayer is said for different reasons. At 2:00 pm every day, a prayer is said for those involved in Law Enforcement, those victims of crime, and, of course ... those in prison. The Lord's Prayer was said I thought it was quite amazing that we happened to be there at just that time.

We separated from Eric and Annette and we each went around the Cathedral at our own pace. We saw all the memorials and also witnessed he change from what Wren WANTED the cathedral to look like, and the Victorian splendor added by Queen Victoria (very different with Gold and bright paintings...we also saw the picture of st. Matthew).

Matt and Sam went up to the top of the Cathedral while I waited...it was 530 steps up and 530 down!!

We went on a Thames River Cruise. Had a nice MC for part of it and Sam ate the biggest burger EVER in Greenwich at the Gourmet Burger Kitchen... located at the Prime Merdian. She has pics of that...not on my camera though so you'll have wait (with bated breath) to see those.

I'm going to wait to say more as it's SO late and we're all tire...and Annette had a bit much wine tonight and I'm sitting on her bed using her computer but i wanted to put up one picture of the St. Andrews Tower holding Big Ben and the Parlaiment. Good night sleep tight.

  1. Who's had too much wine?! At least I paid attention on the tour...it is St. Stephen's Tower that holds up Big Ben!

  3. I love this blog! Frank and I are following it everyday! When I went in June of '96 it also was hot and sunny. Not at all what I had expected. We stayed in a flat in the Belgravia section of London near Harrod's. We went to Ann Boleyn's childhood home (Hever Castle and Gardens), another castle whose name escapes me, Westminster Abbey... what a great time. Do you have plans to go to Madame Tussaud's? I really enjoyed that.

Lots to see and do tomorrow so we'll do another blog when we get home. Two more days of London then it's on to PARIS!!! WHOO HOO!
